APOLOGIES - EVENT TONIGHT CANCELLED

UNU CI-ART EVENT  - 8th June 2016  8pm EST - EVENT CANCELLED

My apologies to everyone; my ISP is having technical issues and we are unable to run the event tonight.

Note:  The HIT has been cancelled also.  We will reschedule for next week.

1  TO DO BEFORE 6PM
When we meet at 8PM on UNU, you will vote on which palette to use in the painting that we will make together.  If you wish, you can make a palette and submit it before the event, and it will be entered into the vote.  The video (right) shows you 3 ways of making a 5 colour palette using Adobe Colour
Another way of making the palette is to simply Google Image search 'Colour Palette' and choose one of the 5 colour palettes you find '(Save Image As' JPEG or PNG)

You can email me the palette anytime between now and 6pm EST :

collectiveintelligenceart@gmail.com

This will give me time to add the palettes to the bottom of this webpage (so you will need to come back to this page during the event).

You do not have to submit a palette to take part in the event.

2 - 8PM
At 8PM we will meet in the CollectiveART UNU and make a series of decisions about the painting.  The painting is created by merging and unmerging cells in a Google Doc Table.  The questions we have to decide in the UNU before we can start the drawing stage are:

1)  How many cells wide and tall do we make the table?

2)  How many of these cells are we allowed to merge to make a new cell?

3) Which colour palette should we use? These palettes will be posted on this webpage at 8PM - we are only allowed 6 choices at a time in the UNU, so we will vote in rounds. For example, if there are 20 palettes to choose from we will have 4 rounds of voting for 5 palettes each time.  Then the winners of the 4 rounds will be voted on in the final round.

After this initial decision making in the UNU, we will start the drawing stage in THIS GOOGLE DOC

As you can see in the Google Doc, the table is 20 cells wide and 20 cells high, but this may change according to your decisions in UNU.

Not everyone can work on the Google Doc at the same time - this will crash the Doc and we will have to start again (if the Doc does crash during the event, please leave the Doc and go to the UNU to await further instructions). So, we take turns according to the initial letter of our last names.  Those with an A at the beginning of their last name will have 30 seconds to merge or unmerge cells, and then B will go and so on.  I will make this clear at the top of the Google Doc when people should take their turn.  After Z we go back to A and so on.  We will do this 'drawing stage' for at least 10 minutes.  At some point, I will ask people (by typing in the Doc) to go to the UNU to vote to STOP DRAWING or CONTINUE DRAWING.

In the video (right), you will see an example of Merging and Un-merging cells to create the drawing. The method is to select with your mouse a group of cells and then  right-click (or the equivalent on the MAC) and you will have an option to merge cells (half way down the menu that appears).   If you click in a cell that was made from previously merged cells, you will get the option to 'unmerge' the cell which will take you back to the original cells in that area.  Feel free to change the work of any other participant.  Please do not feel frustrated if your work is changed - remember you are  working as a collective intelligence  - READ MORE ABOUT COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE ART HERE

When we decide (in the UNU) to STOP DRAWING, we will return to the DOC and wait whilst the palette that was chosen is added to the 'Custom Palette' of the 'Background Colour' tool.  When I signal that we start painting, you click in a cell and the 'Background Colour' tool appears and you can choose one of the 5 colours in the custom palette (plus white and greys - top row).  Again, we will take it in turns alphabetically as with the drawing stage.

After about 10 minutes or so we will vote to STOP PAINTING or CONTINUE PAINTING.  The piece is officially entitled Nexus 3.8 (the 8th painting in the #3 series), but we can add another title to the piece by voting in UNU.

You will be able to view and download the final piece and the video recording of its making on THIS PAGE the next day.
